We had a decent night sleep in our tiny room in Tarn House and were served a nice breakfast by the hosts. We decided to bypass today's leg of the Coast to Coast as it was another difficult section and we felt we could not do three days of this in a row.
This gave us the whole day to explore Keswick and Derwentwater (the lake). The buildings here are remarkable in their use of slate and stone as a building material for the walls.
We spent the morning strolling through the town which had a Saturday market in the square. Lots of nice shops, cafes and of course pubs. Dogs are everywhere.
We walked through the park and ended up at the lake.
At noon we boarded a hop on, hop off classic wooden motor launch for a ride around Derwentwater.
We got off at the Lodore Inn and after a short walk we were at the Lodore Falls.
From here we walked a pleasant path around to the other side of the lake.
We got back on the launch at the next stop and continued our cruise back to Keswick. Nice views of the hills surrounding the "water".
It was now mid afternoon and time to make our way to Grasmere, our stop for tonight. We called the taxi company we had used yesterday for a pick up but the earliest available ride was at 5:00 pm. We hadn't had lunch yet so we decided to go into the The George Hotel pub and have a bite to eat and a pint. Here is the history of the hotel.
Hopefully I didn't have my last tankard....
The cab showed up right on time and we were at The Traveller's Inn just outside of Grasmere by 5:30.
We joined up with the rest of our group for supper at the restaurant in our Inn. They had had a pretty strenuous hike with a lot of uneven surfaces and bog. We were glad we decided to bypass today's section of trail.
